What Crisis?" these words may have brought down a labour govenment in the 1970s*, but when Diocletian uttered them in in the 280s everyone saw it as a challenge chaos that had prevaled for the last 50 years. Let's face it, it's time someone rolled up their sleves and sorted this mess out...
*apologies for the semi-obscure 70s UK politics reference.

Diocletian was at the right place at the right time. His coins are not very pretty and no silver. The damages from the Crisis Period will take another 15 years (320's) to mend..... but the Roman Empire is starting to look Medieval and drifting away from the Classical Empire of the 2nd Century. There was no new public building in UK after the year 200 so by 305, many public building in UK were old and decaying. Cities slowing fading but private villas in the country side were doing well.
